Removing Embarrassing Shows from Your Netflix History? Here’s How

We’ve all been there – you go to your Netflix account and your viewing history is filled with shows you’d never want anyone to know you watched. Whether it’s terrible reality TV, cheesy rom-coms, or risque titles, getting rid of that viewing history can help avoid awkward moments when someone else goes to use your account. The good news is that Netflix allows you to selectively or fully clear your watch history with just a few clicks.

Removing Individual Titles from Your Netflix History

If you just want to remove a few specific shows or movies from your viewing history on Netflix, you can do so easily:

  1. Log into your Netflix account and hover over your profile icon in the top right
  2. From the drop-down menu, select “Account”
  3. Under the “Profile & Parental Controls” section, click the blue arrow icon next to the profile you wish to edit
  4. Scroll down to the “Viewing Activity” section and you’ll see your full watch history listed
  5. Hover over the show or movie title you want removed and click the “X” icon to delete it from your viewing history
  6. Repeat the previous step for any other titles you wish to remove

Clearing Your Entire Netflix Viewing History

If you’d prefer to wipe your Netflix slate completely clean and start fresh, you can choose to delete your entire watch history for that profile:

  1. Follow the first four steps above to access your Netflix viewing activity
  2. At the top of the “Viewing Activity” section, click the blue link to “Hide All”
  3. Confirm you want to hide your full viewing history in the pop-up window

Just like that, your entire Netflix history across movies, shows, specials, and more will be completely cleared from your viewing activity.

Why You May Want to Keep Your Netflix History

It Personalizes Your Recommendations

While some may want to delete their Netflix history for privacy reasons or to remove embarrassing previously watched titles, your viewing history is actually helpful data that personalizes your recommendations. The more Netflix knows what you’ve watched and enjoyed, the better it can suggest new shows and movies tailored to your interests.

Quickly Referencing Past Watched Content

Your Netflix history can also serve as a simple reference to look back on what you’ve previously watched on the service. This can be useful for finding a movie you enjoyed to recommend to others, or just remembering which episode of a show you left off on.

With the ability to selectively remove any unwanted titles or clear your full history, your Netflix viewing activity is yours to manage as you wish. Just remember – deleting that history may make it a little harder for Netflix’s algorithm to figure out what you’ll want to watch next!
